What’s NEW in Education this fall?
The Advanced Representation Skills Course offered by each Regional Office
This training will provide extensive training to local stewards in order to enhance their abilities as effective union representatives. The emphasis is on skill development; how to effectively recruit new members and encourage them to become active, how to keep members informed and interested in the union, how to organize members for workplace action and how to thoroughly investigate problems and competently represent members on grievances.
Check out your Regional Office education schedule for details.
Note: The Advanced Representation Skills Course is equivalent to the Representation Skills Course.
The PSAC-TBS Joint Learning Program (JLP) is a negotiated provision in the collective agreements covering PSAC members employed by Treasury Board. The program offers sessions on topics such as interpreting the collective agreement, union management consultation, anti-harassment and anti-discrimination. Contact the Atlantic PSAC JLP Regional Field Coordinators for further information:
The basic program consists of shorter courses and learning activities that members can take in their communities and workplaces, providing both members and new representatives with basic knowledge and skills.
The advanced program builds on the knowledge and skills developed through union activity and the basic program. Advanced courses are normally three days or more, and prerequisites are usually required.
The Atlantic School is union education at its best, offering several courses under one roof, as well as speakers and workshops. It is an opportunity for new and experienced activists to learn and network with others, and return to workplaces and locals educated and energized to work on behalf of the membership.
