Bargaining 101

Collective bargaining is a legal process that takes place between a bargaining agent and an employer with the goal of setting out the terms and conditions of employment for those workers represented. The rules governing this process are set out by the relevant labour legislation.

Each bargaining agent also has rules about how they will negotiate on behalf of their members. These rules can include how the member input is gathered, how decisions are made about bargaining proposals, who participates in various areas of bargaining. PSAC's rules are set out in Regulation 15 of our Constitution.

Please note that this section is a work in progress. If you have suggestions for information that would help explain the bargaining process, please contact us at bargaining@psac-afpc.com.
