Public Service Pension Plan
The Public
Service Pension Plan is designed to provide a retirement
income during your lifetime. In the event of death, the plan provides
an income for survivors and eligible children.
The PS Pension Plan is a defined benefit pension plan.
This means the plan spells out in advance the benefits you will
received on retirement, death, disability or termination of service.
The benefits are specified in the plan document, the Public
Service Superannuation Act and Regulations. The benefits are
directly related to the employee's salary and period of participation
(service with contributions) in the plan.
PSAC has two representatives on the Public Service
Pension Advisory Committee (PSPAC). The PSPAC is not associated
in any manner with the NJC and has the following legislated mandate
under subsection 41(2) of the Public Service Superannuation Act
(PSSA):
(a) review matters respecting the administration,
design and funding of the benefits provided under this Act and make
recommendations to the Minister about those matters; and
(b) review any other pension-related matters that
the Minister may refer to it.
Pension issues are coordinated through the PSAC
Pension Program.
