Treasury Board and Parks Canada
The National Bargaining Conference is starting on February 1

The delegates to the National Bargaining Conference (NBC) represent over 95,000 workers at Treasury Board and Parks Canada. They were elected and/or selected from amongst those attending Regional Bargaining Conferences held late last year in Montreal and Vancouver.

Hundreds of Parks bargaining unit members from across Canada submitted bargaining proposals to their Locals. Following a review by the Components, these proposals were sorted for analysis by the National Bargaining Conference Parks delegates.

NBC delegates will spend four days in Ottawa, where representatives begin the critical task of undertaking an in-depth review of the proposals and establishing priorities for the upcoming round of bargaining. Presentations about the influences, directions and upcoming challenges will inform and direct them in their deliberations. Conference delegates will also develop mobilization strategies in defence of quality public services and elect negotiating team members. This is a critical step in our bargaining process as we move towards final preparations before serving notice to the employer.

For more information, you can read the updates on the Eastern and Western Regional Bargaining Conferences.

The Conference objectives are:

  1. Review with the participants the bargaining vision of the union, which includes reinforcing our commitment to defending quality public services, playing an active role in the federal election and promoting equity;
  2. Provide members with the tools to assess and develop good bargaining demands, which includes providing information on collective agreements, grievances and bargaining process;
  3. Provide the members in attendance with the tools and the background information needed to play on ongoing role in mobilization and strategy development, whether or not they are elected to bargaining teams;
  4. Begin the process of establishing bargaining priorities; and
  5. Elect negotiating teams and alternates.

Results of the election of Negotiating Team members for the PA, SV, TC, EB, FB and Parks bargaining unit will be made soon after the Conference.
