25th Constitutional Convention of the Canadian Labour Congress

PSAC wants convention delegates to Think Public!

PSAC delegates to the upcoming Canadian Labour Congress convention have Think Public on their agenda and they're looking for the support of the labour movement in our union's fight to defend and expand quality public services.

In a series of resolutions submitted for consideration by the more than 2,000 delegates expected at the convention, PSAC is calling for the CLC to join our campaigns to keep the mandate of the Canadian Grain Commission by stopping Bill C-39 and to ensure sustainable government funding to protect our natural fishery resources. We're also asking the CLC to take a stand against government plans to establish a Crown Corporation for Public Private Partnerships (P3s) and to actively oppose Post Office closures and deregulation.

PSAC wants the CLC, and its affiliates, to donate funding to sustain a number of women's advocacy organizations hard hit by the Harper government's funding cuts, in order to stop the silencing of women's voices.

Recognizing that there is still work to be done within the Canadian labour movement to eradicate various forms of discrimination, several PSAC resolutions ask the CLC to conduct a gender audit of its activities, projects, programs, campaigns, strategies and budget and to organize an equity audit of the CLC and its affiliates similar to one recently undertaken by the CLC's equivalent in Britain – the Trades Union Congress.

The convention, which brings together delegates from national and international unions, labour councils and federations of labour, takes place in Toronto from May 26 to 30 under the theme Unions! Now more than ever!  Delegates will participate in strategic policy sessions that will focus on improving the quality of life of workers, their families and their communities as well as debating resolutions.
