PSAC Social Justice Fund
From Québec City to Miami – PSAC speaks out for social
justice!
The PSAC has been increasingly active in the anti-globalization
and social justice movements over the past few years. PSAC
leaders, activists and members participated in the Second People's
Summit of the Americas in Québec City in 2001, and the teach-in
and mobilization around the G-8 Summit in Calgary in 2002.
On May 1, 2003, delegates to PSAC Convention adopted an Action
Plan to fight globalization as we know it, and endorsed the PSAC
Social Justice Fund as adopted by the National Board of Directors
in January 2003.
We're now in Miami speaking out against the FTAA and for social
justice. PSAC leaders will be participating in a number of
coalition workshops, labour forums, teach-ins, panels and events
sponsored by the AFL-CIO, PSI and others. These activities
are designed to mobilize against the FTAA and for a better world.
In addition to all these events, our Union leaders will be actively
working to set up the PSAC's Social Justice Fund. These leaders,
who sit on the PSAC Social Justice Fund Steering Committee, will
take the opportunity to meet with a number of representatives from
Public Services International affiliates and other union and coalition
groups throughout the Americas. During these discussions,
we will work on initiating worker-to-worker exchanges and education
projects designed to connect PSAC members with union members in
other parts of the Americas. These are two of the activities that
the PSAC Social Justice Fund is designed to fund.
