USGE/PSAC PFA Campaign Update
Treasury Board can’t take away the PFA without a fight
On August 10, almost 2,000 USGE members received first hand evidence of Treasury Board picking their pockets when their salary cheques no longer included the Penological Factor Allowance (PFA).
But USGE and PSAC didn’t wait until August 10 to take action. Here’s what has happened so far.
- On July 22, Nycole Turmel wrote to Treasury Board demanding a meeting.
- On July 28, the union went public with a news release and information pickets were held at institutions and community Parole Offices across the country to protest the “Danger Pay Double Cross”.
- A group grievance campaign was launched. If you’ve lost the PFA and haven’t signed on to the group grievance, check with your Local and sign up today.
- But it’s going to take more than one demonstration to change the government’s mind about who receives PFA. Here are some things you can do.
- Volunteer to be part of a lobby team to meet Members of Parliament in your area. Lobbying tips and a handout to leave with MPs are available from your USGE Local or through the PSAC regional office.
- If you can’t lobby in person, send a message to your MP using the Fax Your MP service on the PSAC web site. Better still, make a phone call too.
- Get connected. Receive all the latest information sent directly to by e-mail by subscribing to the “PSAC PFA e-mail news” list. Follow the easy instructions on the PSAC website (www.psac-afpc.com).
