USGE/PSAC PFA Campaign Update

August 29, 2005

Don’t agonize…mobilize!

We don’t have to take Treasury Board’s removal of the PFA lying down.  Here are some suggestions for Local and membership activities that will raise members’ awareness and gain support.

  • Gather expired collective agreements and send them to Treasury Board President Reg Alcock.  It’s postage free at:  House of Commons, Ottawa ON  K1A 0A6.  Make sure to include a message telling him how happy you are that you are no longer receiving the PFA.

  • Leaflet and hand out information before you start your hours of work, during your lunch break and after you’ve finished your work day.

  •  Brainstorm with other members to come up with suitable activities.

  •  Talk to other PSAC members in your area about the issue and involve them in your activities.

  • Attract media coverage with your local activities.

  • Hold a contest, with prizes, for the best campaign poster or slogan that sends a message to your employer about the loss of PFA.

  • Dress up or down!  Hold hat day, sneaker day, dress in black day.

  • Ask for meetings with the employer on a constant basis and at these meetings regularly bring up the status of PFA.

  • Refuse to participate in voluntary activities such as employer surveys and no extra unpaid work on the job.

  • Take your full break, lunch hour and leave at YOUR quitting time.

  • Don’t take laptops home or perform homework, unless it is paid overtime.

  • Don’t delete any e-mail from your mailbox.

  • E-mail, phone, fax, write or visit you local MP’s office.  Be part of a lobbying team meeting other MPs.

  • Pass out information leaflets at local events in your community to raise public awareness.

  • If you participate in voluntary community programs, let them know you’re participating as a USGE/PSAC member, not an employee of CSC.

Remember:  To avoid any disciplinary action, always remember the “obey now, grieve later” rule if asked by the employer to stop an action, e.g. remove button or sticker, etc.).
