Nycole Turmel re-elected PSAC President
MONTREAL – Nycole Turmel was re-elected this
morning as the National President of the Public Service Alliance of
Canada, on the last day of the Triennial Convention which was held
this week in Montreal. Turmel was elected by acclamation by the 400
delegates present on the convention floor.
“I am committed to ensuring better
working conditions, and negotiating the best possible collective
agreements,” said Turmel right after her election. “I will work to
make the PSAC a more inclusive union, one that listens to all of its
members.”
Nycole Turmel has been a member of the PSAC’s
executive committee since 1991 and National President since 2000. She
has been active in the union in elected positions at the local,
regional and national level since 1979.
John Gordon was re-elected National Executive
Vice-President, also by acclamation.
“This union has moved tremendously in the last
three years,” said Gordon. “I am committed to building the Social
Justice Fund and concluding collective agreements by their expiry
date.”
Before being elected as the National
Executive Vice-President at the 2000 Triennial Convention, Gordon was
president of the Union of Public Works Employees, a former Component
of the PSAC, for 15 years.
In a three-way contest, Robyn Benson was elected
alternate National Executive Vice-President.
In a series of regional
caucuses, delegates elected seven Regional Executive Vice-Presidents
to complete the union’s nine-member executive committee. They are:
