Royal Canadian Mint
Bargaining Update March 24, 2005
A tentative agreement was reached at 2:30 a.m. on March 24, 2005 on behalf of PSAC members at the Royal Canadian Mint. The union was successful in achieving a collective agreement that provides for fair and reasonable improvements to wages and working conditions. The 36-month contract would expire December 31, 2007.
Among the highlights of the tentative agreement are annual economic increases in the order of: 3.0 %, 2.4 %, and 3.0 %. The agreement also includes off-scale performance awards in each year, dependent upon the Mint’s profitability.
In addition to the improvements reported in previous updates, the union also negotiated improvements to standby, orthodontic coverage, and an increase in shift premium to $1.35.
The union bargaining team is proud to have negotiated these improvements while avoiding the proposals submitted by the Employer calling for a long-term contract and an expansion of the use of temporary employees. At the same time the union demonstrated its flexibility in working with the Employer in response to bona fide organizational challenges by reaching an agreement on improved flexibility regarding the Plating operation in Winnipeg
More information as to the details of the settlement and ratification process will be issued in the near future. The union bargaining team would like to thank the membership for their encouragement and support during the bargaining process.
