Jérôme Turcq re-elected PSAC Regional Executive Vice-President for Québec

Delegates to the PSAC’s Québec Convention have re-elected Jérôme Turcq as their Regional Executive Vice-President (REVP) for a third term. Turcq said he is pleased with the re-election and looking forward to the tasks ahead.

“The labour movement in Québec, and everywhere, must play an important social and political role,” said Turcq. “For many years, the PSAC has been an important player in the Québec labour movement, and we intend to keep up this tradition.”

Turcq has been the Regional Executive Vice-President for Québec since 2000.  Jérôme has also held the position of Executive Vice-President for the Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE), one of PSAC's 17 Components. He was a Regional Vice-President for UNDE in Québec from 1991 to 1996, and UNDE Vice-President, Québec, from 1996 to 1999. He has been active in the PSAC since the mid-1980s and has held various positions in his Local.

Delegates elected Normand Pelletier as First Alternate Regional Executive Vice-President for Québec. He will sit on the Québec Regional Council and would become the REVP in the event that Turcq could not complete his term of office.  Pelletier is President of the Mauricie Area Council, Regional Vice-president in Québec for the Union of Taxation Employees (UTE) and President of UTE Local 10027.

Manon Bouchard was elected as Second Alternate Regional Executive Vice-President for PSAC-Québec. Bouchard is President of the Montréal Area Council, President of Local 10007 of the National Health and Welfare Union (NHWU) and Alternate Regional Vice-president for NHWU in Québec.

PSAC National President Nycole Turmel addressed the Québec delegates. Turmel outlined the leadership of the Québec region within the PSAC, and the importance of an increased role for young workers within our Union.

A total of 155 delegates attended the Québec Convention in Montréal from May 13 to May 15.  Among other important decisions, delegates unanimously adopted a resolution denouncing Walmart’s anti-union actions, and supporting the actions of the Québec Federation of Labour (FTQ) on this front.  In addition, PSAC and Convention delegates raised over $11,000 towards the campaign designed to support former Wal-Mart employees in Jonquière.

The PSAC represents 24,000 members in Québec, primarily in the federal public sector, but also in airports, universities and many other workplaces.
