MEDIA ADVISORY

PSAC convention delegates rally in support of striking BHP Billiton mine workers

TORONTO – PSAC members employed at the Ekati diamond mine in the Northwest Territory have been on strike against BHP Billiton for a first collective agreement since early April.

Delegates and observers at the Public Service Alliance of Canada's 14 th triennial national convention are demonstrating in support of the striking workers.

WHEN:
Wednesday, May 3, 2006 – 12:30

WHERE:
Delegates will be marching from the Westin Harbour Castle Conference Centre (Queens Quay West and Bay Street) to the park located behind the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel. The park is west of the Ferry Dock.

WHO:
Spokespersons at the rally include

  • PSAC National President Nycole Turmel
  • Union of Northern Workers President Todd Parson
  • Ekati Mine striker Robert Beaulieu

MEDIA:
Media may check in at the PSAC's media room, located in the Bay Room, one floor below the Metropolitan Ballroom, Harbour Castle Hotel. The march will start close to this room. Interviews with speakers can be arranged upon request.
