PSAC delegates, UNESCO delegates and the Parks Canada CEO

PSAC members met delegates from an important international UNESCO gathering in Quebec City and explained to them the difficulties they are encountering in this round of negotiations with Parks Canada. The UNESCO's 32nd Session of the World Heritage Committee is being held in Quebec City from July 2 to 10. PSAC members sent a very clear message to the delegates: "Respect for Workers is Respect for Heritage."

On July 2 and 3, PSAC members at Parks Canada went to Quebec city to inform the public about the work they do to preserve the many Canadian heritage sites of which the country is so proud.

The high point of the two days was the reception with the UNESCO delegates. Dozens of delegates from that prestigious international organization came and heard what PSAC members had to say about the need to maintain quality public services in Canada's protected sites and about this round of collective bargaining with Parks Canada. The UNESCO delegates were from Cambodia, Slovakia, Austria, Italy, the Republic of Mauritius and other countries.

Parks Canada CEO Alan Latourelle paid a short visit to the reception and saw how eloquently PSAC members were explaining their points of view to the UNESCO delegates. The members did not miss this opportunity to show Mr. Latourelle how determined they are to negotiate a collective agreement that is just and fair.

The event was a big hit. PSAC members were able to inform the public and the UNESCO delegates and, more importantly, to show how serious they are in their efforts to negotiate a fair collective agreement.
