Members at Parks Canada converge
around World Canals Conference
PSAC activists did not waste an opportunity to make their presence and issues known to delegates of the World Canals Conference 2008 that took place in Kingston, Ontario, from Sept. 14 to 17.
The World Canals Conference 2008 was hosted by Parks Canada and included day trips to local landmarks by the conference delegates. Delegates came from 11 countries including Ireland, Belgium, the U.S., Serbia and Cameroon.
Day 1
The Parks Strategic Aquatic Command (PSAC) Houseboat arrives in Kingston Harbour where, close by, PSAC activists leaflet arriving conference delegates at Four Points Sheraton in downtown Kingston.

Day 2
Activists begin an action packed day with an early morning information picket at the delegates' hotel. This is followed by a trip to Fort Henry to hand deliver invitations to the PSAC Meet-and-Greet, a trip to Kingston Mills Locks, an open house at the new Kingston Regional Offices and a Kingston Area Council meeting.
Day 3
Activists travel to Smiths Falls to leaflet delegates, and the PSAC Meet-and-Greet attracts 50 to 60 conference delegates and Parks Canada staff.
Day 4
PSAC activists travel to Jones Falls to leaflet delegates.
Day 5
The action moves from the Rideau Canal to the Trent-Severn Waterway for the final day of the conference. PSAC lawn signs are placed along the waterway, and the PSAC banner is prominently displayed on the railway bridge near the Peterborough lift lock.
