PSAC Bargaining Units with Treasury Board (PA, SV, TC, EB, FB)

Still no elimination of zones

The SV Bargaining Team returned to Ottawa for another session with the employer. We conveyed to the employer that the team had had a busy summer meeting with members across the country and consistently heard expressions of utter disgust with the employer's wage offer. We told the employer that the members reiterated the need to get rid of the zones and are asking: “Where is the rest of the market adjustment to bring the SV Group to wage parity?”

We said that members also raised concerns about contracting out and how this affects our job security, especially in light of the government's privatization and deregulation of public services like Aviation Inspection, Food Inspection and Grain Inspection. Ironically, this is the same government that says that it is maintaining quality public services.

Efforts to push Treasury Board forward on FR issues, Early Retirement, Injury on Duty and Allowances saw no movement from the employer. There were discussions around premiums, with our team stating that all members who work early and/or late hours should receive premiums. Our team also stated the need to ensure that all shift workers are recognized as such by having the exclusions for FR, SC, and LI removed from the agreement.

The elimination of zones was discussed, with our team stating that we saw this as an upward adjustment to the highest rate.

The team was disappointed with the employer's continued lack of recognition for the value of our work as it was obvious that the employer's negotiating team was unable to move forward on issues.

It's time to take advantage of the election period.  Make sure you get out and exercise your privilege to vote.  Elect an employer that will truly respect and recognize the value of our work and remind them that Members of Parliament enjoy a national rate of pay.
