PSAC Akwesasne Local 00780

Pace of negotiations slows down

Your bargaining team was in negotiations with the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne on October 29 and 30. The pace of collective bargaining has slowed as we begin to discuss the most important non-monetary issues. These issues are of critical importance to the membership and the bargaining team and the employer remain far apart on some of these issues.

Although we have signed off a majority of the non-monetary issues and will be addressing our monetary package in the near future, your team is determined to resolve a number of critical, outstanding non-monetary issues including staffing, job postings and job vacancies.

Your team is intent on negotiating staffing processes that are transparent, fair and that provide members with a meaningful say in the affairs of their workplace. To date the employer has tabled contract language that allows little meaningful opportunity for our members to have a say in staffing allocations.

As members of PSAC Local 00780 you are under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code and you have a legal right to negotiate staffing allocation processes.

Your bargaining team is undaunted and we are determined to reach a fair and just collective agreement with the employer. We encourage members to continue to contact their local union representatives and offer their support. The team returns to the bargaining table November 18 and 19.

In solidarity,

The bargaining team:
