Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Throughout the summer, Aboriginal Women and their supporters have been walking across Canada to raise awareness on violence against women. This historic Walk 4 Justice started in British-Columbia on June 21 and the marchers will be arriving on Parliament Hill on Monday September 15.
I invite you to support these courageous women, and show your solidarity by joining the marchers in this final part of their Walk 4 Justice. Please join them Monday September 15 at 9am, at Minwaashin Lodge at 474 Catherine St. (and Kent). There will be a second Meeting Point at 9:30am, at the Human Rights Monument (161 Elgin), and the March will proceed to Parliament Hill. Beverley Jacobs, President of the Native Women’s Association of Canada and Phil Fontaine, National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations will be the first speakers at a day-long Rally, scheduled to start at 10 am.
The organizers of the Walk for Justice are calling for support to help them provide lodging for the marchers. If you can offer a billet, please contact Irene at Minwaashin Lodge (613) 741-5590 ext 224. If you can make a donation to this important event, please contact Leighann Burns, Treasurer, Walk 4 Justice Committee Ottawa, at (613) 233-5990.
In Solidarity,
John Gordon
National President
