NEU/PSAC members ratify new agreement with Qulliq Energy Corporation
NEU/PSAC members have voted to accept the terms of a new three-year agreement with the Corporation that runs to the end of 2013.
Salaries are being increased by 2.5% retroactive to January 1, 2011 and another 2% retroctive to January 1 this year. Starting January 1, 2013, salaries will rise by a final 2%.
Employees on strength on the date of ratification will also receive a $1,100 signing bonus
Other improvements in the new agreement include increases in shift premiums, clothing and boot allowances and a guaranteed minimum 5% increase when employees perform acting duties. There is now a new comprehensive letter of understanding on the Apprenticeship Program and improvements associated with training and various types of leave.
According to Nunavut Employees Union President Doug Workman the members' strong strike vote convinced the Corporation that they would not accept all of the concessions QEC proposed.
PSAC regional executive vice-president for the north Julie Docherty credits the solidarity and persistence of the members with enabling the union to finally reach an acceptable settlement.
