Health and Safety
It's Time to Enact Health and Safety Legislation for Parliament Hill Workers
Parliamentary Employment Staff Relations Act Part III
Introduction
The injustice of the government to pass a piece of
legislation and to only proclaim a part of that legislation and then for the government to
continue to leave the remaining parts unproclaimed for more than 12 years is
unconscionable. There is no reason for Parliament to exclude themselves from health and
safety legislation when all other workers in Canada are covered by federal, provincial or
territorial health and safety legislation.
Many of us take health and safety legislation for granted
and we fight for improved health and safety legislation; however, we must not forget those
workers who do not have any health and safety legislation. We need to support our sisters
and brothers by demanding that our government proclaim Part III (Occupational Health and
Safety) of the Parliamentary Employment Staff Relations Act that was passed so long ago.
