It's time for us to tell our stories

It’s time for PSAC members to remind the public about the valuable work we do. It’s time for us to tell our stories.

That’s why PSAC launched this major public awareness campaign in 2004. We wanted to highlight the key role our members play in protecting and enhancing the quality of life in Canada. Our members are “The people behind the service.”

Our TV ad showcases some of the work we do. How we work to safeguard our environment and our heritage. Protect Canadians from disease. Make sure our food is safe to eat. Help our veterans. Assist the unemployed. Secure our borders. Rescue people at sea. Our print ads feature specific members telling their stories.

Why a campaign?
Events such as September 11, the SARS crisis, the fires raging in B.C., the major power blackout on the Eastern seaboard and the recent BSE (mad cow disease) crisis have drawn public attention to the importance of public services. Canadians have seen how experiments with deregulation and privatization have failed. And polls show that people are increasingly concerned about the neglect of public services. It’s becoming more apparent to everyone that privatization, deregulation and tax cuts are not the answer.

This campaign was a first step to ensure that Canadians understand the importance of maintaining and improving public services. We want to building strong public support for the services we provide. We are proud of the work we do. And we’re in the best position to tell Canadians why public services are worth preserving and enhancing. After all, we’re the people behind the service.
